The human-centered fast unintentionally produces hungry stomachs, angry pride, and a fragmented community. Three well-meaning worshippers miss the mark—they don’t see.
In the final analysis, maybe mercy is just “extra-credit,” after all? Could it really be that Messiah’s mission is to “preach good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and to release from darkness the prisoners?” The voiceless ones scream, Amen!
Open eyes. Open hearts. Open arms. See Messiah. Fast in a new way.
“You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high”
(Isaiah 58:4b).
