I’ve been musing again on the notion of generations.
Sara and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary in June of 2021.
My parents logged 50 years in 2020. Sara’s did a couple years back.
As it turns out my kids are also growing up (almost done with the height part, actually).
Independent scheduling and all that.
I’m cresting atop the half-way mark… hopefully.
This painting is my trying to make sense of those things through the lens of dwelling spaces. Houses, actually. In doing this, I’ve found myself simultaneously looking backward in time at former residences and forward in time to home-remodels, expansions, upgrades, dreams. This got me thinking about trees too and the way in which roots relate to fruits. Reaping and sowing. The inputs of our past (labor, source, origin) determine the outcomes of our future (reward, resolution, bounty).
The result was a new look at some old Hebert-Larson-Story-Epicenters…

The truth is, I’m really just trying to stop time, which, of course, is futile. Perhaps, I should settle for becoming aware it—for being awake to the present moment, holding past and future together in gratitude, surrendering to the intended work of generations. So, with reluctant but authentic expectation, I’m deciding to press in, believing the best is always yet to come. And right now, the best is at 221 2nd Ave. NE, St. Cloud, MN. To God be the glory.
Psalm 128
A Song of Ascents. Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD. The LORD bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life! May you see your children's children! Peace be upon Israel!
